Taking Tea in the Kasbah

Last week y’all were asked to entertain the notion of either giving up your sight for a day or giving up your phone for a month. It was a close race between the two, with those willing to not see for a day edging out those willing to not have use of their phones. Many of you noted that the mere suggestion of being unable to have your phone would bring about heart palpitations or, in one particularly severe case, probable death. With that in mind, I can certainly see why giving up sight for a day was the preferred option.

Those who chose to go the phone-less route noted that it might feel kind of liberating to disconnect for a bit, though one clever reader pointed out that the internet was still available via a laptop so true disconnection wouldn’t be a hardship for her.

As for me, I decided to go with not having a cell phone for a month. The idea of not having my sight truly freaks me out. I know it would only be for a day. Sure, I could nap all day if I really wanted to instead of facing my fears. But in the end, giving up my phone, as challenging as it would be to do all the things I do with it, felt much less scary than being without sight.

And now, on to this week’s question…

Would you rather

have an extra hour every day

clock

– OR –

have $40 given to you free and clear every day?

money, dollar

***

Which it will it be, clever readers? Will opt for the bonus hour every day? If so, what would you use it for? Or will you choose the free money? What would you use the money for? Sit, sip, and share. I always love to hear from you.

  1. I’ll take the extra hour, thanks. That’s worth so much more to me — I could designate it my reading hour!

  2. While they do say “time is money” I will take the $40.00 every day (free and clear) rather than the extra hour. I take care of so many animals (mostly feral cats), and that extra money would go a long way to helping pay for their food (which I pay for myself). The kitties thank you!

    • Wow, I bet you spend a small fortune taking care of those cats. What a generous, kind soul you are!

  3. I know the extra hour a day would come in handy, even if I just used it for sleeping. But I have problems using my time effectively and fear I would simply waste this extra hour.
So, I’ll take the $40 a day, $280 per week, approx. $1000 per month and give it to my son for his flying lessons. And someday he’ll give me a ride 🙂

    • Ooh, excellent use of the extra money, Suzanne. I’m with you – not sure I would use the extra hour the best way possible, though an extra hour of sleep every day would be extremely lovely.

  4. Time or money? Money or time? I’m going to go with time. Life’s too short, you know? And I love the possibilities that having more time would give me.

    • Life is too short, especially when I think of all the places I want to go, the things I want to do, the people I want to spend time with, and the stories I want to write.

  5. Well, I would probably just waste that extra hour4, so I might as well take the money and waste that. could go out for dinner, or buy a new outfit or new shoes, or go on a trip ($40 a day adds up!). Don’t worry, I could manage it all.

    • You’re so right, $40 a day does add up. I can think of a number of ways to spend that. 🙂

  6. I was really close to taking the money, but then I read Liv’s comment about life being too short and she is 100% right. I will take the extra hour and make the most of it 🙂

    • It’s a tough choice, isn’t it? I could certainly use both. I’m still undecided on my choice.
