Taking Tea in the Kasbah

Last week things got a bit heavy in the kasbah with y’all pondering whether you would rather know HOW or WHEN the world was going to end. Despite the somber tone of the question, the comments left by those who dared to pick one of the options were interesting and intriguing.

At almost an even split, those who preferred to know WHEN said that having that knowledge would help them prioritize things, like what they want to accomplish in life or making sure they spent time with loved ones.

Those who are in the HOW camp cited having the skinny on what’s actually going to happen but not knowing when it will happen gave them a greater sense of freedom to live in the present.

Like I said, interesting and intriguing.

Ultimately, I decided to join those seeking to know HOW the world will end, mostly because I surmise that I’ll be able to deduce the WHEN based on what’s actually going to go down. Maybe that’s naively inflating my scientific intelligence, but I figure I can consult and research and come up with a somewhat accurate notion. Also, I think knowing WHEN would give me a little too much anxiety and keep me from being fully present in the here and now.

And now, on to this week’s question…

Would you rather

go about your daily routine completely naked over the next week

miss out on a year of your life because you were asleep?

Which will it be, clever readers? Will you choose to go about your week sans clothing? Or will you choose to lose out on a year of your life in a deep slumber? Which one could you live with? The tea is steeped, the pillows are fluffed, and my ears are tuned to your answers. I always love to hear from you.

    • It will be interesting to see who opts for a week of nudity, that’s for sure. On the upside, once the week is over you’re done. A year of sleeping will take a bit longer, though you’d certainly be very well rested by the end. 🙂

  1. I think I’d choose going naked because a) this is make-believe, b) it would be great material for writing, and c) who knows how much longer I’m going to have on this earth. I’d hate to waste any of it.

    • Call me crazy, but somehow I knew your vote would come down in favor of a naked week. You make some solid points, especially the one about coming up with writing fodder. Just capturing people’s reactions to it all would be priceless.

  2. OK. I’ve thought about this one a lot. At first I was going to choose sleep. Then I realized, that since this is make-believe (as Liv graciously pointed out), I would go sans clothing for a week, going about my daily routine … on a secluded portion of a tropical island. Liv is right. It would make for great writing material!

    • You live on a secluded tropical island? You’ve been holding out on me, Elizabeth!

Yes, as Liv pointed out the questions are… theoretical in nature, yet you’re supposed to imagine yourself in your real life, running about sans clothing. Even with that persnickety nitpickiness clarification, it sounds like you’d opt for nudity over snoozity, though.

      • Since I wouldn’t be able to find someone who would take care of all my cats (at home and the feral colonies I manage) for a year, I pretty much have to choose the naked thing. I would choose to work from home that week and stay totally housebound. I so don’t like being cold. Hence, my first choice on a remote tropical island. 😉

        • I totally agree with you on the tropical island. Honestly, it really wouldn’t take much for me to go to a tropical island, naked or not. 🙂

  3. These just get weirder all the time!

I’m thinking you’re not going to buy in to Liv’s idea of it’s only make believe. Therefore, real life, I’ll take a nap. I need the sleep anyway. And it might be a nicer world when I wake up.

But if make believe IS allowed, I’ll be on that island.

    • I prefer to think of the questions as more hypothetical rather than make believe. Otherwise, I’d also have “on a secluded tropical island” in every one of my answers. I would also hope that the world would become a nicer, gentler place after waking from a year long slumber.
