Taking Tea in the Kasbah

It’s Wednesday and you know what that means…

Yes, astute readers, it’s time to get back into the Would You Rather groove. Apologies for having missed a few weeks.

In the last question, y’all were asked to consider whether you’d prefer having one wish granted right now or three wishes granted ten years from now. The comments were tallied and in the end twice as many of you chose to take one wish now as did those who opted for three wishes later.

One person mentioned taking their one wish now because who knows what the future holds. I have to admit that sort of logic sold me on the one wish plan. I’d rather take my one wish now (and perhaps, as one person commented, wish for three more wishes which is a SPECTACULAR idea) and enjoy it than wait ten years for three wishes. Given my state of mind as of late, I would definitely welcome having a wish of mine come true.

And now, on to this week’s question…

Would you rather

only be able to whisper

– OR –

only be able to shout?

What will it be, fine readers? Will you choose to whisper your conversations and requests? Or will you choose to say everything in a SHOUTY sort of manner? Sit, sip, and chat in your preferred volume. I always love to hear from you.

  1. I’ll have to take whisper… at least I could use sign-language or writing if no-one could hear me. Couldn’t bear to shout all the time…

  2. I want to be heard, but I don’t want to be annoying. Hmm. Kinda like the social media balance conundrum.
How about I whisper ‘Buy my book’ ten times, once for each short story available now on Amazon, each read for 99 cents.
Look at that. A comment and a plug. Yeah, I know Efficiency is annoying, too.
Tami, I am so glad you’re back.

  3. I am by nature a quiet person, and would not want to be around myself if I were SHOUTING ALL THE TIME. That means I have to choose whispering. Most of my daily communication is through email, texting, and tweeting … so I’d hardly notice. πŸ˜‰

    • That’s a good point, Elizabeth – much communication these days is done through our computers and phones. It probably doesn’t matter as much if you’re the SHOUTY type or whispering type in that sense. Unless you work in a small office (like I do), have to talk on the phone with clients (like I do), and do one-on-one assessments with traumatized kids (like I do). πŸ˜‰

  4. This might surprise you, but sometimes when I see that your comments are trending one way, I pick the other just to be contrary.

In this case, however, I’m going to vote with the majority. In my day job, a shout-only strategy would be an epic fail, and as Ellen pointed out, I can always use other methods of communication if I need to.

    • A rebel? You? I’m shocked… πŸ˜‰

Yes, I can see how SHOUTING while working with the newborns and the preemies would be an epic fail. Whispering it is, then. And perhaps some softly sung lullabies as well.

  5. *whisper*
I’ve heard that some teachers actually Lower their voice to be heard.
Plus, Ellen has a great idea with the sign language. Besides, I’ve always wanted to learn sign language.

    P.S. Tami – I hope you get a few wishes-come-true soon!

    • I’ve used such a tactic when working with kids. Most of the time it really does work. It can lower the tension in a room as well.

      P.S. Thanks. Me, too. πŸ™‚

Whisper wins for me. Although by nature I’m a loud laugher and talker. (I think anyway..) But I’m not a shouter, and I don’t care for the “shouter mode of communication.”

    • Yes, I’d have to agree with you that you’re a louder laugher and talker than, say, me. But you are definitely not a shouter. Whispering would be much more suited to your personality anyway.

    • I know, right? It would be like being trapped at a very loud rock concert that never ends. No thanks. πŸ™‚

I’ll go with the whisper. I’m not much of a shouter. No experience in cheerleading or sports. Don’t really shout in arguments. So, I’ll suck at shouting. Therefore, the whisper thing makes sense.
