The quandary posed last week – having an extra hour every day or receiving $40 a day free and clear – was not an easy one for me. It didn’t help that whenever I read someone’s comment, I’d think, “Yes! That’s TOTALLY how I feel about THAT. Phew! Now I have my answer for next week,” only to be tempted by the next comment that popped up. I’d read that one and think, “Yes, that’s so true for ME, TOO! I’m gonna change my answer and go with THAT one. Phew! Glad I sorted that out.”
And then next answer came in and, well, you can probably see where I’m going with this.
But for those who commented, the choice seemed pretty easy. Nearly half of you chose to go with the extra hour, citing extra reading time or the endless number of things that one could do in these too-short lives of ours. Then there were those who chose to go with the $40 a day, noting the numerous ways it could be spent, ranging from feeding stray cats to flying lessons for a son to a mini shopping spree.
So where did I land after ping-ponging around on this question? After much deliberation, I decided the extra $40 a day would come in mighty handy, what with all the house remodeling I have going on at the moment. I could then afford that secret bookshelf/hidden door or the super cool rolling ladder for my three-story library (that is, after I add on the additional two stories to my house). I could make upgrades to the writing cave’s security measures as well seeing as a certain classy British actor has become quite sought after in the movie biz as of late and surely has access to some state of the art Writing Cave Locating Techniques. Needless to say, the money would not go to waste.
And now, on to this week’s question…
Would you rather put an end to
world hunger

hatred and oppression of people?

Hm, this is a bit deep for midnight… I’m going with hatred and oppression, because I reckon there’d be a flow-on effect in a more peaceful world. The happy people would rise to help solve world hunger as well…

Oh that’s such a tough question! But I am going to go with ending hatred & oppression, since it is a cause of hunger in many places, and if there weren’t any hatred/oppression left, think of the resources that would be available to feed everyone!

I agree, hatred and oppression seem to be a major cause of hunger worldwide, so ending it should be a big part of ending world hunger.

The end of hatred and oppression would lead to the end of poverty, which would lead to the end of world hunger. However, due to our frail human nature, soon a movement would arise to add more food to this side of the line than the other side and after some nodding of heads and rubbing of chins, some folks would have more than others. Then, perhaps the whole cycle would repeat itself. Sigh.

Oh boy. I hadn’t considered the cyclical nature of these issues. I would hope us humans could learn from our past mistakes and not repeat the past, but as we can see in war after war, we’re unfortunately not so quick on the uptake.

I have to believe that ending hatred is the #1 fixer-upper for the majority of the worlds problems. (I say “most” because it doesn’t seem like the end of hatred would alleviate writers block or snake bites.)

I’ll go with ending hatred and oppression. I think that’s a harder world problem to solve. If they let me be in charge of the world (yeah…they should so do that), I’m positive that I could come up with a solution for world hunger. Of course, it wouldn’t be my idea, but I know I could find the right smart, sciency (new word alert) people to do it.
