Taking Tea in the Kasbah

This week’s Friday prompt amongst my writer/blogger friends is:

If you could have one magical item, what would it be and why?

I considered many a magical object when pondering this question. Having just been to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida, several easily came to mind. But the one that rose to the status of most coveted is:

the wand

Fleur's wand 'chose' the 13 year-old in Olivander's Wand Shop

Sure, it’s a bit obvious, but a wand is highly versatile, allowing its user to conjure any number of spells to perform acts of trivial banality (for example washing the dishes, folding the clothes, paying the bills, cleaning out the litter box) or acts of great wonder (like, say, lighting the night with hundreds of fireflies in a tragically firefly-less backyard).

If the owner of a wand were the charitable and kind sort of wizard, she could also use her wand to help others. Neighbor can’t reach that jar of pickles on the high shelf? A friend needs her lawn mowed? Co-worker’s desk could use some tidying? Done. Done. And done. Voila!

If only these posts would come true…

*sigh*

Be sure to check out these other posts to find out which other magical objects are most coveted:

Now it’s your turn, magical readers. What magical object would you choose to have in your possession. The magical pillows are fluffed and the magical tea has been steeped. Sit, sip, and share. I always love to hear from you.

  1. I have a 10YO niece who would be BESIDE HERSELF to go to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. I had better not tell her about it, or she would start nagging her beleagured parents to go visit… Or maybe I should (heh).
I love that wand, and can see why it chose to join your family. Did you get one for you? I totally would have. 🙂
Did they have time-turners? Coz I would have got one of them too…

  3. Okay, you have me convinced. I don’t need a maid, I need a wand. Much easier and faster.

  4. The Wizarding World. I SO want to go there! Is it as cool as I imagine it to be? I bet it is!
..and great minds, indeed ~ we both even used versatile 😉
    Excellent choice!

    • It is very cool. The attention to detail that was put into that part of the park is extraordinary.

  6. I think I would like Luna Lovegood’s wand, because I imagine there’d be an element of surprise in anything I tried to do with it. “Hmm…I meant to vacuum, but the daisy petals covering the floor now look pretty, too.”

    • Oh, Luna’s would be a great wand to have! It definitely would add more random whimsy to your life.

  7. I would want a crystal viewing ball so I would *experience* a trip to Harry Potter’s Wizarding World before actually I go. Which I WILL! You’ve made me all the more determined. Will you be doing a post about that trip? PLEASE!!!!

    • You should definitely go. It was as wonderful as I thought it would be. And yes, I’m definitely planning to do a post on it. Coming soon!

  8. A wand, you say? Methinks ’twas a mother who first conceived of a wand. What with the need for another 4 arms and eyes in the back of her head, a wand would be an brilliant extension of physical reach. And we all know, moms are magic.

    • You are absolutely right. Moms ARE magic. How else would they know when, in this purely *cough* hypothetical scenario, you and your friends sneaked into the big city for a night of dancing at that club you got into with that fake I.D.? Eyes in the back of her head indeed.

Methinks a magical house might be nice. I’d like to have it self-clean like an oven, cook my meals, wash and iron my clothes….you get the picture. 🙂

    • Ooh, that’s a GREAT idea, Brinda! A magical self-cleaning house with the ability to make my meals. Sounds like something right out of the Jetson’s. 🙂
