Taking Tea in the Kasbah

To go forwards or backwards, that was the question.

The previous Would You Rather question presented the choice of leaping forward in time to meet your future descendants or jumping back in time to hob nob with your ancestors. This week the ancestors win by a wide margin. Many more of you decided to meet the relatives that preceded you, mostly for the sake of finding out their life stories on a first hand basis and to ask questions about their world views. One person opted to go back in time because of anxiety about the future while another worried she wouldΒ let the cat out of the bag if she went into the future and then came back with some juicy bit of intel that should remain unknown in the present.

One the side of the descendants, curiosity and the possibility to know people we’d otherwise never know were causes to make the leap forward in time. One person pointed out that our ancestor’s lives and stories could be researched and discovered through asking other family members to share stories about them, but our children’s children’s children are people we will never know in our lifetime. That particular reason stuck with me all week and is ultimately why I’ve chosen to get to know my descendants. Plus, I really want to ride in a flying car and to see if everyone has a home like the Jetsons where the food magically appears in a cabinet or out of the countertop.

And now, on to this week’s deeply philosophical and thought-provoking question, co-created with the 13 year-old:

Would you rather

burp confetti

fart glitter?

It is a question of the ages and for the ages, clever readers. Which will you choose? Colorful belches or sparkly toots? Do have some tea and share your thoughts. I always love to hear from you.

Oooh… When it was just a matter of Confetti vs Glitter, Glitter was the clear winner – even if it’s hard to vacuum up, I don’t mind sparkly carpet… But, now that it’s a matter of belches vs farts being seen… I’d have to go for the colourful belches! No one needs to know everything about me!

  2. Yeah, I don’t think this is an apples with apples comparison. It’s REALLY burps v farts. And I’m a lady and don’t do either… but if I have to choose, it’s the lesser of two evils – ie the burping. Whether or not confetti or glitter comes out at this point, I don’t much care!

    • Way to get to the heart of the question, Ellen. It really is burps vs farts, but I didn’t want to have that in a post title and then have google forevermore send me spam related to that. πŸ˜‰

Burps are a bit more ladylike. And with confetti, they might even be a tad fun.

  3. Who IS this 13 year old? How does she dream this stuff up???
I agree with Ellen. It’s really a choice between farting and burping. Of course, I would burp. And it would be so much FUN to burp confetti that I would probably try to burp as often as possible.

    • Farts and burps are hilarious to anyone in middle school, my 13 year-old being no exception. It really wasn’t much of a leap for her.

I agree, if confetti came out anytime I burped, I may be inclined to do it more often. πŸ˜‰

  4. It would have to be confetti. Burping it out while dancing and doing a jig. Glitter is too sticky and hurts when it gets in your eyes (not to mention where it would stick if you farted). So, has to be that confetti. . . laughing all the way.

    • Nice one, Cora – burping AND dancing. Way to make it a festive occasion! I agree, confetti is a little easier to deal with overall.

  5. Confetti, hands down. First, I would rather burp and second, as I learned by giving my first daughter vials of glitter to add to her artistic creations, glitter is evil.
    Funny decision this week πŸ™‚

    • Glitter can indeed be the biggest of all evil craft supplies. And burping can be kinda funny.

  6. As much as I dislike the giving or receiving of either burps or farts, it’s pretty easy peasy to go with burbs over farts — regardless of the tempting potential for either riotous color or sparkly shine. I can only hope I’ve made the right decision :-O

    • You are in good company with the confetti choice, Barbara. I’m laughing at the thought of all of you bringing joy to the world with your colorful confetti burps.

  7. Hah! In this case, and this case only, I will have to choose confetti. But can it at least be sparkly confetti? Burps win over farts any day! πŸ™‚

    • It can totally be sparkly confetti, Elizabeth. Leave it to you to find a way to incorporate a little sparkle wherever you can. πŸ™‚

  8. I’m sure you have personal experience with both these products, but let me make this clear. Glitter is dang hard to get rid of when adhered to your skin. Confetti can be swept away. So the real question is which of these items do you want to be stuck with 24/7.

    I’m going with confetti.

    • Confetti is the easier one to clean up, that’s for sure. Pragmatically speaking, of course. πŸ˜‰

Confetti can be, personal, political or party hearty! I vote confetti.

    • Good point – there are so many uses for confetti. I’m seeing a landslide victory for confetti.
